SACO AEI Polymers is part of a global conglomerate of companies owned by AESSE Investments Ltd. Located in Sandwich in Dover district, the site develops, manufactures and deliver a full range of products for sectors including building and construction, electrical and electronics and other speciality markets. We’ve worked closely with the business on projects to solve challenges for them and inspire Kent’s future engineers.
The challenge:
- SACO AEI are reducing plastic waste by recovering waste product and blending it back into new product as part of their manufacturing process using a simple screwdrive and a DC current motor.
- To optimise this process, SACO AEI challenged EKC students to find a way to disconnect the machine and the worm drive and motor more quickly, saving SACO time when changing over the screw drive
The solution:
- Our student staff team designed a quick release component comprising adaptor plates, new mountings and spider couplings and a PLA insert for the coupling using our Siemans SinuTrain and CNC milling and Turning machines
- The bespoke blendback adaption parts will save SACO AEI time at their Sandwich site
